Right Yaaa Wrong directed by Neeraj Pathak and produced by Subash Ghai is a thriller that has nothing really new to offer. The director however infuses some life in the movie with some thrills though which works to an extent. However, the movie could have been much slicker with some more punch in the predictable script.
Story of Right Yaaa Wrong: The movie opens with a tight action scene where we see Sunny Deol, Irrfan Khan, Deepal Shaw and a team of police officers taking a criminal gang by surprise. Right through this scene, the respective traits of the two police officers, Sunny Deol and Irrfan Khan are underlined. While Ajay Shridhar(Sunny Deol) is a bold and courageous officer with a sensitive side, Vinay Patnaik( Irrfan Khan) comes across as practical and rigid.
Ajay is married to Anshita((Eesha Koppikar) who is actually sleeping behind his back with his cousin brother. One day during an encounter with criminals, Ajay is left paralyzed from his waist. Thinking that his life is nothing but misery, he tells Anshita and his brother that they should kill him and get insurance He tells them of a full-proof plan that they can make use of so that no one knows about the murder. Anshita and her boyfriend agree and they are about to kill him when he takes them by surprise and kills them both. Now the world thinks that Ajay killed them for self-defense but Vinay does not believe it. He has reasons to believe that Ajay had killed them for a motive. But how will he be able to prove this in the court?
What’s hot about Right Yaaa Wrong
The narrative flows smoothly and the movie is crisply edited. What is interesting is Eesha Koppikar’s characterization. Her role of an adulterous woman has no justification; there is no ‘filmi’reason given, which is a commendable thing. The performances are noteworthy as well. The bonding between Sunny Deol and Irrfan Khan come out very well and so does the angst and determination in the latter to prove that Sunny is a criminal
What’s not so hot about Right Yaaa Wrong
There are quite a few loopholes in the plot. For instance, one cannot really buy the fact that Anshita would be ready to kill her husband on his recommendation. Eesha Koppikar’s fancy wardrobe does not suit her character as that of a middle class policeman’s wife. The court scenes are also hackneyed and things like the judge saying ‘can I have some silence in the court-room’ seem added just for effect. Sequences like the lawyer Konkana Sen’s urge to back Sunny Deol and fight for him does not hold much water. There could have been some more scenes between Sunny Deol and Irrfan Khan to make for an interesting watch.
Performancs in Right Yaaa Wrong
Konkana Sen is understated and does not get too much role to perform. Eesha Koppikar does the slutty act very well. Sunny Deol puts up a superbly restrained performance, good to see him experimenting rather than just going full blast with fiery dialogues. Irrfan Khan who has a lot of scope to perform in the second half puts on a brilliant performance.
Conclusion: Watch Right Yaaa Wrong if you are in mood for mind game for 2 hours or so
