Apartment as a movie, is archaic and outdated. The film clearly shows clear lack of premise and execution
Story of Apartment:
Karan(Rohit Roy) and Preeti(Tanushree Dutta) live in an apartment. Preeti doubts her husband’s commitment in the relationship and once she catches him in a compromising position, asks him to leave. Then comes Neha(Neetu), a village girl, who exhibits eccentric behavior. She soon becomes Preeti’s roommate. But thereafter strange things begin to happen. The neighbor’s(Anupam Kher) cat gets poisioned, the goldfish is eaten by the crows and Preeti’s life is caught in a vortex of problems
What’s good about Apartment: Neetu’s character is interesting, from the time she comes in, there is some promise that her personality. She does not tell anything about her background and we do not have what her intentions are. So this part is something that keeps the audience guessing
What’s not good about Apartment: We seriously do not know why Apartment was positioned as a thriller movie, because there is nothing that can be labeled as ‘thriling’ in it. There is jarring music, too many face close-up shots like those of a Ram Gopal Varma cropper and stupid camera angles which do nothing to move the story ahead. The scenes after Neha’s diagnosis are downright ridiculous ending in a climax that makes you feel like blowing up the Apartment for good.
Performances in Apartment: Tanushree Dutta does not have to really act, she just looks shocked throughout the film, Neetu Chandra believes that expressing horror is by dilating her pupils. Doesn’t work, babe! Anupam Kher and his cat are the only saving grace in the film
Conclusion: Jag Mundhra seems to have toned down the erotic and outrageous elements in the film to appeal to a wider audience. But it would have been better he had toned up the script, the screenplay and the thrills. Easily, the worst Jag Mundhra film.
