Amitabh Bachchan Returns as the Host of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 4

You have loved it, raved it and made it the biggest game show on Indian television. Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Milloinaire, owes a lot to the charisma of Amitabh Bachchan for its popularity.

The fourth season will have Amitabh Bachchan returning as the host of the show. It is believed that instead of Star Plus, the show will be aired on Sony TV. KBC had made its appearance first on 2001when Big B’s career was going through a lull and he had accumulating debts on him. But the phenomenal success of show not only established his finances in order, he also made inroads to Bollywood again and reinstated his legendary status.

Amitabh Bachchan’s phrases in the show ‘Lock Kiya Jaye’ and ‘Computer Mahashay’ became part of household lingo and the show was again revived in 2005, with the name ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati Dwitiya’ in which the final prize amount was doubled to Rs 2 crore. However, the second season was abruptly stopped when Bachchan took ill in 2006. The show finally returned as Kaun Banega Crorepati-3 in 2007 hosted by Shahrukh Khan which didn’t enjoy so much success as Big B’s outing.

One of the sources from the team said that though SRK’s hosting in KBC was good but the show didn’t get the TRPS that Big B’s hosting did for them. In fact, whenever Big B has hosted a show, it worked wonders. Even Big Boss, the Indian version of Celebrity Big Brother had a huge TRP boost when Big B hosted it in 2009.

Viewers may recall that KBC had become so popular in 2001 that dinner times were adjusted to suit the show timings and the movie shows were showing a slump during the time when KBC was hosted on TV. Let’s hope Big B’s magic works again.
