Movie Review: Dabangg – A Big Treat for Salman Khan Fans

Salman Khan promised that Dabangg would be bigger and better than his last big hit “Wanted”, and it does so! This is a pure Salman Khan treat for his fans, a movie that spells ENTERTAINMENT at  all levels.

Story of  Dabangg: Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) is a modern-day Robin Hood, a corrupt, fearless cop who does not think twice about speaking his mind or hammering the bad guys to pulp. But he is a man of too many paradoxes.  He may have lots of black money stashed in his house but he makes sure that he gives all of them to the poor and the needy.  He even helps his step father, Vinod Khanna, who he detests from the bottom of his heart. Chulbul makes a lot of friends and a lot more enemies. One of them is Chedi Singh(Sonu Sood) who tries to bump his off in various ways but is unsuccessful. Somewhere down the line,  Chulbul Pandey falls in love with Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha). And he goes again on a fight to finish the bad guys. By now, you must have guessed that there is nothing worth calling a “story” in this film but it comes out scoring 4/5 on entertainment factor, which is what today’s audience are exactly looking for.

Plus points of Dabangg:

  1. Salman Khan, he is one man entertainment factory. Take him out and 80 percent of the movie is not worth watching. Put him in and the movie delivers 120 percent. The movie is an extension of  what the macho actor is supposed to be in real life-lion hearted, unpredictable, funny and aggressive.
  2. The funny, sexy song “Munni Badnam Hui” shows why Malaika Arora is the most wanted item girl of Bollywood.
  3. The witty punch-lines, the fight sequences are all trade-mark Salman Khan style; all of which any Salman Khan fan would devour.
  4. Sonu Sood’s well-chiseled body. You guys go looking for Salman Khan’s macho body but you are rewarded with a well-toned bod of this guy that is just inspiring.

Minus points:

  1. You do not go for logic in Salman Khan’s movies be they Judwaa, Partner, Wanted or Dabangg; so if you are looking for substance, you may not watch this.
  2. Dabangg is not a good film when you are looking for story or plot development; it does not come anywhere closer to the other Salman Khan biggie, Wanted. But yes, Dabangg does pulls all stops when it comes to entertainment.

Performances in Dabangg:

Dabangg belongs the last standing actor hero of our times, Salman Khan; he makes a thunderous impact. This movie will draw whistles and shouts for him.  Sonakshi Sinha is delightfully curvy and yes, she has a good screen presence, though she has miles to go when it comes to acting.  Sonu Sood is a surprise; with a well-chiseled body and a perfect performance, he stands his ground against Sallu, a feat no simple to achieve.

Conclusion: Go, watch it and enjoy the festive season with Dabanng
