Ram Gopal Varma Removes Objectionable Parts from Rakhta Charitra

Ram Gopal Varma and his films always end up getting involved in some controversy or the other. The new one comes in the wake of his latest movie Rakhta Charitra. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has asked the director to delete some scenes that put the late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N.T.Rama Rao in poor light. The protesters even took to the street and halted the screening of the film in a few theaters. Varma has agreed to delete these scenes and dialogues that have been found to be objectionable.

Ramu felt that the people who are protesting are the ones who have not seen the film and he himself maintain that he was a big fan of N.T. Rama Rao and if the movie is seen in its entirety, one would be able to grasp the crux of those scenes and dialogues.

The effigy of the director was burnt and slogans raised in parts of Anantapur, Hindupur, Eluru, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar and other towns, as the protesters demanded a ban on the film. TDP chief N. Chandraprabhu asked for apology from the director while NTR’s second wife said that the scenes were in bad taste. Family of Obul Reddy, one of the characters portrayed in the film felt that his projection in the film was also in a negative light. In fact, the locals of the town also had an issue with the film, they asked him to change the name of the town from Anandpur to Anandapuram. Let us hope that this movie works now without any more protests, because it is one of the better films this season.
