Makers of Gandhi to Hitler Ready to Sue Anupam Kher for 2.5 Crores

Suing seems to be the latest fad in Bollywood; we have had actors being replaced or opted out in the films. But for the upcoming movie Gandhi to Hitler, there is more than just the question of replacement-it is about suing for breach of contract. The case actually happened a year ago when Anupam Kher backed out of Gandhi to Hitler when fans tweeted him and requested him to not do the film.

The makers of the film had asked Anupam to reconsider but in vain. In the end, the asked him to return the amount of Rs.4 lakhs that was paid to him. But Kher refused to do so saying that they were using his name to promote the film. So in return, the film’s producer Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma is suing Kher for nothing less than Rs. 2.5 crores for behaving unprofessionally and also maligning their film.

Nalin Singh, who is co producing the film, agrees that he paid Rs. 4 lakhs to Kher and that he had signed the contract as well. After the production work had started (dates were blocked and costumes were designed), Kher declared at a press conference abroad that he was not interested in doing the film. Surprisingly, the producer asserts that Kher did not even to bother to inform them about his decision. Surprised by the turn of events, Singh tried reasoning with the actor but in vain.

Anupam Kher when contracted said, “I may not be Shah Rukh Khan but I have a reputation to safeguard. My name is important too. They should be concerned about promoting the film when it is about to release and not using my name for publicity.”
