Vidya Balan who has created a sensation with her revealing photos in Dirty Picture, says that she is always game to take risks in her career. She says, “I am on a trip of playing different people – living their lives, fiction or real through the characters I play. And these are the people who are so not like me. And why shouldn’t I play these characters? I am getting these opportunities and I am grabbing them. A film has to have something beyond the regular song and dance for me. You know what, I want people to come out after watching each and every film of mine and say, ‘This is not the Vidya we know’ or ‘This is not the Vidya we saw last time’.”
Vidya says that she looks up to the likes of people like Aamir Khan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra who have experimented with their films and who manage to defy rules. She admits that she wants to go the Rekha way, toying with different commercially viable characters. Hinting that she had not used prosthetics in the film to accentuate her assets, Vidya admits that she seeing Big B go through a tough time with them and she would refrain from talking about them.
Vidya says that her parents were in the know of the erotic content in her film. She says, “I always tell my parents everything I do. They had seen Milan Luthria’s work, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai. And they knew Ekta since my Hum Paanch days. But yes, I did feel awkward sitting with them when the promos were first telecast. However cool and evolved I maybe, I am never going to coochie-coo with my boyfriend in front of them. Hence, watching my intimate scenes with the actors, along with my parents was never going to be easy.”
When asked if she would have said to Raj Kapoor if he had asked her to do Ram Teri Ganga Maili where the heroine had to reveal her breasts through a thin wet saree, Vidya answers the question smartly, “I don’t think he would have made Ram Teri Ganga Maili in today’s times. But yes, I must say that I would have loved to do his Satyam Shivam Sundaram.”
