The Nawab and Begum reside in their royal home, trying hard to maintain their regal status. But due to extreme financial crises that are the order of the present day, the Nawab finds it hard to maintain his status and royalty in contemporary times.
Nawab’s rival political party, which belongs to Gainda Singh [Vipin Sharma], wants to eliminate the Nawab and his allies take over the administration. Nawab is in constant stress for maintaining his position, campaigning for elections as well as safeguarding his life and property. At the same time, he is charmed by a beautiful mistress and the Begum tries hard to get her husband interested in her, but in vain.
The rival gang then plants a person called Babloo (Randeep Hooda) as the driver for the family, as they have already eliminated the old driver in an accident. This young driver is supposed to act as a spy but he falls to the charm of Begun and seduces her. The begum also gives in, sexually attracted to him, considering she has been ignored by her husband for a long time. Babloo falls in love with Begum and confesses about the plot to kill Nawab; he admits about his intentions and plans in front of the Nawab. As a result, there is high drama and a twist in the plot that takes the characters in the film as well as the audience by surprise.
What works for Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster:
The amazing plot-line, the fantastic execution, the rich, interesting dialogue and the captivating performances literally every element of the film, works in its favor. There is no unnecessary diversion into subplots that hold no relevance, like we have seen in many films of late. There are lots of twists and turns to keep you glued in. Moments of high drama mixed with powerful dialogue alone can give you money’s worth. The lines remain in your memory even after you are done watching the film.
What does not work in Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster:
Post the second half; the scenes could have been slicker. Also some of the twists may seem too much of a surprise and unbelievable. The music could also have been a couple of notches better.
Performances in Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster:
This is a performance powered film, the trio of Randeep, Jimmy and Mahie Gill need to be repeated, so electrifying is their chemistry. The brilliant actor Jimmy Shergill packs in enough intensity and sparkle to keep the audience in tenterhooks. Randeep Hooda shines in his role and gives a measured performance which makes us wonder what he has been doing all this while. The beautiful Mahie Gill excels in a role that has been tailor-made for her. She is superb as a neglected wife, very convincing as a seductress and impressive as a woman with a complicated state of mind. The other actors, Deepraj Rana, Deepal Shaw, Vipin Sharma, Rajeev Gupta and Shreya Narayan are equally competent and are a perfect foil to the trio.
Saheb Biwi aur Gangster is a must-see film that hangs on a powerful plot, superb script, fantastic dialogue and inspiring performance. You cannot skip this one
