Shah Rukh Khan has expressed in interested in playing the character of Hamlet, the moving tragic saga of Shakespeare to director Vishal Bharadwaj. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Vishal have decided to go by his choice and are now contemplating making a movie based on tragic Shakespearean hero. Actually King Khan was supposed to work with them for the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s 2 States. However, he declined saying that he was not fine with doing two back to back romantic films. As a result, Sajid Nadiadwala has decided to rope in Ranbir Kapoor as the protagonist of this movie while he will make the ‘Hamlet’ film with SRK.
A source explains, “Shah Rukh clearly told producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bharadwaj that he didn’t want to work on another love story. He is already doing a romantic film with Yash Chopra and so, to go straight into the romantic space again seems redundant. Shah Rukh suggested that he go into the Maqbool-Omkara space with Vishal. Shah Rukh loved what Vishal did with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan in Omkara. They plan to shoot the Bollywood adaptation of Hamlet in the remote areas of North India.”
If this works out, this will be Bharadwaj’s third adaptation of Shakespearean work; he had made Maqbool and Omkara, based on Macbeth and Othello respectively.
