Bollywood has not really made the cut when it comes to rock based movies even though Hollywood has come up with cult films based on rock music. The closest we have come to making a decently good rock-based film was Rock On! But that trend-setting film worked only in the cities, while the little towns and villages gave it a miss. Imtiaz Ali planned to change it all with Rockstar starring Ranbir Kapoor, which he believed would cut across the hinterland as well. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to be.
Before we dissect the film, let’s get down to the plot of the film. Janardan [Ranbir Kapoor],...

The most awaited movie of the year, Ra. One finally had a grand release this Diwali. It is now time to review the movie and find if it justifies the mammoth budget and the grandiose hype around it. Well, the movie is peppered with meteoric highs and dismal lows; it is safely an average movie at best.
Story of Ra.One:
Shekhar Subramaniam is an affable nerdy, guy who is in the field of robotic engineering. However, his son Prateek is not entirely happy with his dad because he does not find him cool enough. Finally, dad gets son’s approval, when he makes a robot called Ra.One with really...

David Dhawan, the box office king with the Midas touch in the early 90s faltered big time post 2000. He seems clearly out of touch, and is just not able to get what the audience wants. Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Kunwara, Chal Mere Bhai,Yeh Hai Jalwa, Hum Kissise Kum Nahin, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Shaadi Number One, Do Knot Disturbs are some of the films that you may not even remember, forget the fact that they flopped badly. Okay, he did have two hits like Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya and Partner but they worked on sheer star power and gimmicks without any content. Back to Rascals, this one is actually way...

Neerav Ghosh’s Soundtrack is an official adaptation of the Canadian film ‘It’s All Gone Peter Tong’. The director makes use of footage from real-life technicians like DJ Aqeel, Anu Malik and Anurag Kashyap along with fictional characters to trace the life of DJ Raunak Kaul (Rajeev Khandelwal).
Story of Soundtrack:
Raunak Kaul is intrinsically humble and helpful by nature, when he sees a beggar who has exceptional talent for singing, he takes note of him and makes him sing for his album. DJ Raunak begins as a DJ at the Tango Charlie Club and this is the place where he...

When the saccharine sweet Diya Mirza announced that she would be making a movie, we guessed that it would be a cheesy, romantic film. Love Breakups Zindagi turned out to be exactly that; an up-market romantic film with liberal doses of cute and tender moments albeit with characters that are one-dimensional in nature. Also guess what, a non-actor and Dia’s business partner Zayed Khan, surprisingly whips up a wonderful chemistry with her in the film.
Story of Love, Breakups Zindagi:
This is a cute story about love, life, guilt, realization and a few heartbreaks. There are a few confused...

South Indian actor Surya must be feeling very special, three of his films- Ghajini, Singham and Force have been remade to Hindi and all have won popular acclaim. Force may not be stellar stuff, but it is definitely a cut above the rest in the genre of serious action films in Bollywood. John Abraham who has reprises the role of the Surya in this Tamil remake (Kaakha Kaakha), has done a commendable job. The movie has a delicate balance of explosive action and restrained romance
Story of Force:
The love story is the backbone of the plot while the movie is fleshed out with action. Yashvardhan...

Mausam begins with a teenage attraction between a Punjabi boy Harry (Shahid Kapoor) and a Kashmiri girl Aayat (Sonam Kapoor) in a little village Mallukot. The lovers separate, meet again, part again and finally culminate into together at the final reels. There is a transition from episode 1 (in Punjab) to episode 2(Scotland) and then from episode 3(Switzerland) to episode 4(India). There is nothing much to say about the story except the fact the lovers have a tough time getting to each other, in adverse circumstances, till they unite at the very end.
What is good about Mausam:
Kudos to the...

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has Bollywood written all over it, with lots of color, music, dance, comedy and drama. Though the subject may be trite, the treatment of the film is commendable. One feels that if the script was better, it would have definitely been an entertaining watch.
Story of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan:
The story is about one Khush Agnihotri (Imran Khan) who is looking for a bride for his brother Luv Agnihotria (Ali Zafar) who is based in London. He finds an ideal find in Dimple Dixit (Katrina Kaif) a girl who is a perfect foil of Indian sensibilities and English charm, just...

Aarakshan has been in the news for its controversial theme on caste-ridden reservations in the education system. Even at the point of writing, the movie is in news, banned from various places including UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. After watching the film, one may say that the film may well be banned for a different reason-for being such a boring film that compromises on its theme.
Director Prakash Jha’s films like Gangajal, Raajneeti, Apaharan and Damul have always managed to make varying degrees of impact due to their socially relevant themes. Aarakshan had a touchy topic...
