Salman Khan in Legal Trouble Again

Salman Khan is being sued along with the makers of Veer for ripping off the story from a book without giving credits. Gurgaon-based author Pavan Choudary, who has written a book called A Trilogy Of Wisdom, has alleged that the scriptwriter has a ‘thought’ (in his words) or ‘concept’ of Veer from the Hindi version of the book which was published in 2009

The writer has filed a case against Veer’s makers, producers Vijay Galani and Eros International, director Anil Sharma. He has also filed against Salman Khan who is the main lead and the script writer of the film.

“A Trilogy of Wisdom is an exploration of Chanakya’s political, Confucius’ social, and Kabir’s spiritual wisdom,” Choudary states. “In the Chanakya section, I have developed and presented my political dream for my country – the culmination of which is that ‘desh ko sone ki chidiya nahin, sone ka baaz banana hai. Kyunki chidiya ko toh baki pakshi noch noch kar kha jaate hain, par baaz ki taraf koi aankh utha ke nahin dekhta.’” He adds, “I saw a trailer of Veer in which there’s a dialogue – ‘Hamara desh ek sone ki chidiya hai jise aap log bhinch bhinch kar apne pet main dharna chahte ho … munh mein nahin aayegi chidiya … kyunki woh chidiya baaz ban chuki hai.’ It’s a complete pickup (sic) from my thought. It’s like taking away from Lal Bahadur Shastri the words, ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.’,” complains Choudary.

After seeing the trailer, he says, he had a legal notice sent to Salman, Sharma and Galani, and also to Eros International. “I wanted to give them the chance to respond. I filed the suit on Saturday. I’ve had absolutely no response from them,” says Choudary. And what does he want from them? “I’ve asked for damages, but that’s not my main thing,” says Choudary. “What I want is that the paternity of this idea be attributed to me.”

Direction Anil Sharma is infuriated with the statement of Choudary is infuriated with the allegation. He said, ‘This is utter trash talk. It’s absolutely stupid. In fact, I am laughing at this matter. I do not know the intricacies of the allegation, but I can say one thing – people these days can do anything for cheap publicity. I’d tell him that bhaisaab, write your books passionately and wait for people to read them. Sales of your book will rise. Why resort to such ways?’

People may recall that there has been a rise in the ‘credit issues’ of late. The last big controversy was when Chetan Bhagat had complained that he was duped by the producer of 3 Idiots as they had allegedly flicked a large part of his story and not given prominent credit to him.
