Phoonk 2 directed by Milind Gadakar, is a commendable horror movie though it is a mish-mash of RGV’s earlier ventures-Bhoot, Vaastushastra and Kaun(the climax scene, terrace et all). There are sections of media that has stated that Phoonk 2 does not have much of a story but then a story and too much drama can only put the reins on the horror element. Another good thing is compared to the usual RGV horror films, there are less of weird camera angles especially post interval, and more chills in Phoonk 2.
Story of Phoonk 2:
Rajiv(Sudeep), his wife Aarti(Amruta Khanvilkar) and their two kids search for another house, far from the city life. They do settle in a remote bungalow but they do not really find peace of mind. From the beginning, there seems to be something eerie going on. Sudeep’s sister Neeru Bajwa and fiancé Amit Sadh come to live with them as well (which does look ‘forced’) and all of them experience suspicious activity. Sudeep’s daughter (Ahsaas Channa) goes along with her kid brother to the nearby beach and forest where they find a doll lying nearby. They get it home and after that there are killings in the family. It is by now known that Ashwini Kalsekar who had done blackmagic in the first part of Phoonk 1, and was killed, has come back as a spirit to take their lives.
What’s hot in Phoonk 2
Phoonk 2 is definitely notches above Phoonk 1 which was hardly scary. In the first part, the only thing that seemed scary was the crow which definitely doesn’t scare most of us. In the second part, fear is more real. It is also good to note that there is no flashback and drama in Phoonk 2 and the director delves in the basic element of fear only. The camera work done by Lenhert Pereira, the eerire background score (Dharam and Sandeep) contribute to the horror buildup.
What’s not hot in Phoonk 2
The climax is a letdown, there are glaring errors in it. Also the part after climax is long-drawn and could have certainly be snipped off. Also the first part of Phoonk 2 has too many of RGV’s by now boring elements like weird camera angles and unnecessary sound scare. But after the interval, the movie picks up big time.
Best scenes of Phoonk 2: The death scenes involving Zakir Hussain, Jeeva and Neeru Bajwa are shot very well
Performances in Phoonk 2: Sudeep is very good in the film and the Linda Blair of Phoonk 2, Ahsaas Channa is just perfect for this role. But the best actress in the film is Amruta Khanvilka who has got ample scope to perform in the climax. One wishes that the shoddy makeup could have been reduced though. Neeru Bajwa is there for the sex appeal and her fiancé Amit Sadh looks lost in the film.
Conclusion: Phoonk 2 is a scary movie; you can watch it for your weekend chills
