Anupam Kher has reportedly walked out of his Hitler role from the movie ‘Dear Friend Hitler’ to be directed by Rakesh Ranjan This he did, because many Indians had personally requested him not to the role of a person who was responsible for the massacre of millions of people. “Yes, that’s exactly what I was told by several people,” said Kher talking to a popular Mumbai tabolid from Scotland, where he is shooting with Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor for Mausam
“Initially I thought that since I am an actor, I should be up for any role. But after seeing that so many people were reacting against it, I realised that I should not hurt people. Human emotions are bigger than cinema.” Pausing for a moment, he added, “There is one more reason why Kher was averse to doing Dear Friend Hitler. I disagree with the director’s (Rakesh) statement in the media saying that Hitler was responsible for India’s independence, or something similar that he said. Being one of the better actors of Indian cinema, this is one film I can definitely do without.”
The makers of the film are shocked by the turn of events. They requested him not to leave them in a lurch since they had organized a press conference in the forthcoming weekend. Anupam confirms, “They said ‘Give us a chance’. I was even told that they were even willing to change the director. But still I declined. At the end of the day, the greed of an actor should not surpass the feelings of millions of people.” This leaves to our mind what happens to Neha Dhupia who was happy about playing the role of Hitler’s lover, Eva Braun.
