Karan Johar Tells Why Hrithik Roshan is Better for Agneepath Remake
Karan Johar finally expressed his reasons as to why Hrithik Roshan has been chosen to play the famous role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan that Amitabh Bachchan had immortalized in Agneepath, 20 years ago. But he was clever in passing the buck to Karan Malhotra while stating why Abhishek Bachchan, the rightful heir to the role has been ignored.
Says Karan Johar, “When my father (the late Yash Johar) produced Agneepath, he left everything to his director Mukul Anand and kept completely away from the project. I’m carrying on the family tradition. The casting for the Agneepath remake was decided by the director Siddharth. He decided on Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. Why Hrithik and not Abhishek? I think Siddharth has his own ideas on how to present the character. I think the protagonist in the new Agneepath would be very different from how he was in the original.”
Also, the script of the new version has been totally changed. Madhavi may have played a nurse in the original but in the remake; Priyanka Chopra will be playing a different character. Also Mithun Chakraborthy’s role has been totally done away with. However, there does not seem to be any tension between Abhishek Bachchan and Karan Johar, as we saw last week at the HDIL Fashion Week, where the Bachchans mingled with Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar and SRK. In fact, at Manish Malhotra’s fashion show, Abhishek had actually gone and hugged Karan warmly. Big B, on Thursday evening, had walked the ramp with Hrithik, thereby silencing all rumors of a rift between the Bachchan family and the Roshans.
Says Karan, “The Bachchans and my family go back a long way. Our association is not on a film-to-film basis. It doesn’t matter how many films we work in or don’t work in. For the record, I will be doing at least ten more films with Abhishek in my lifetime. He’s already done two films with our banner Dharma Productions. He’s doing Dostana 2 next year.”
