Zokkomon has the correct formula for a good superhero film; however the ingredients do not come together as a cohesive whole. Though the histrionics are good, paucity of good special effects and faulty screenplay let the film down.
Story of Zokkomon:
Darsheel Safary plays Kunal, a boy who has lost his parents in an accident at a much younger age. He is now at the mercy of his evil uncle Anupam Kher. Darsheel is pulled from his boarding school and put into a village one, his uncle comes to know that Darsheel is the rightful heir of a lot of money. So he decided to bump off his nephew and take over the inheritance. The little boy is presumed to be dead soon but Kher is not really sure. This is because after this incident, the entire village is witness to a a child with super-heroic powers. So the uncle wonders if Kunal is really dead, or is his guest terrorizing the village? Or has the kid acquired superpowers to seek justice?
What works for Zokkomon:
The performances are brilliant, especially of Darsheel who shows that he is really a superhero when it comes to acting. The direction too is quite appreciable by the first timer Satyajit Bhatkal who gets the camera angles right. Anupam Kher is a treat to watch specially in the double role, the one of a crazy scientist Dr . Vivek Rai. It is almost difficult to recognize that it is him.
What does not work for Zokkomon:
There are too many clichés in the script; the plot itself is nothing new. The film turns preachy instead of entertaining. Walt Disney’s first Hindi venture is not quite the stuff one expected it to be.
Performances in Zokkomon:
Darsheel and Anupam Kher put the movie on high gear due to their amazing performances. Manjari Phadnis looks beautiful but there is nothing worthy writing about her role. She gets to wear a dozen getups in a song but there is no impact in a role that is inconsequential.
Conclusion: Do not go with high expectations, this is just average stuff
