Aadesh Shrivastava, one of Bollywood’s popular music directors, who had been ailing with cancer, is now hale and hearty. But apart from the trauma of being diagnosed with cancer and the fear of death; there was something even worse that hit Aadesh and his family hard. It was the isolation and ditching from almost the entire entertainment industry that left Aadesh and wife Vijayata Pandit upset, sad but yes, wiser, for life.
Speaking to a city tabloid after being diagnosed, Aadesh said, “Falling ill so suddenly was traumatic. But the cold-shoulder treatment I got from the people with whom I’ve closely worked with for years, has caused me even more damage than the disease itself. Nobody came to visit me after I fell sick.”
Aadesh sold his hard-earned Hummer car to pay the hospital bills. He says, “I sold it at a throwaway price. I wanted my family to be with me. I’m a very emotional person. If a friend needs me, I will run at 2 am to help. Where were all my friends during the worst time of my life?”
Aadesh says, “A very few people from the industry came to see him like singer Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Shekhar Suman, lyricist Prasoon Joshi and director J.P. Dutta.” He says that fellow music composer Anu Malik came along with the Bachchans, actress Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta showed genuine concern and even Baba Ramdev, the Yoga Guru, helped him overcome the terrible side effects of chemotherapy.
Reliving the nightmare, Aadesh describes, “It was at the GIMA awards that I felt unusually fatigued. I couldn’t see through my right eye. The next day I was told to go for a blood test. That’s when my cancer was discovered.”
Aadesh has kind words to say about Akon, “I haven’t really asked for help from anyone. The proudest moment for me was when Akon invited my elder son Avitesh to accompany him for his concert in Bangalore. Every week he messages me ‘Brother I’m there for you. When doctors allow, you’ve to come straight to Atlanta to stay and make music with me’.”
Vijayata also recalls the terrible phase, “It’s not been an easy time for us. I was there for him. But where were all our friends? In one day our life was turned upside-down. We got to know who our real friends are.” The music director is now determined to put the past behind him and work with renewed vigor. Aadesh says, “I went through unbearable pain, but the worst is over. I want to get back to work with a vengeance.”
