Actress Anushka Sharma was stopped at the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport for carrying unaccounted gold, diamond jewelry and two watches that were valued at Rs. 35 lakh. She was grilled for 9 hours and finally let off, according to custom officials.
Anushka who had landed in Mumbai at 2.30 pm from the IIFA award ceremony in Toronto was interrogated about the veracity of the valuables that she was carrying. Her statement was recorded and was she was told that she would be called for questioning again, if required. The custom officials are looking into the documents that she provided claiming that the belongings that she took were from India. The 23 year old actress claimed that while going abroad, she had taken these valuables from India and had declared the gods at that time, so she was not required to pay the duty.
Minissha Lamba had also been detained by the Customs in May for carrying jewelry that she had no declared while Bipasha Basu had a similar experience quite recently, when she was stopped at the airport for carrying valuables.
