Ajay Devgn is the most bankable star of Bollywood today, even more than Salman Khan. In the last couple of years till date, he has been giving hits one after the other like Atithi Tum Kab Jaogey, Rajneeti, Once upon a Time in Mumbai, Golmaal 3 and his biggest success, Singham that released this July. Despite making his debut in 1991 with the hit Phool aur Kaante, Ajay had been maintaining a low profile and had not bothered about increasing his price.
However, after the success of Singham which made a business of more than Rs. 100 crore, the superstar felt that it is time he did the needful. So for Vashu Bhagnani’s next film which is a remake of the 1983 movie, Himmatwala; Ajay has asked for Rs. 18 crores which is more than double of what he charged for Singham.
A source close to the actor said, “Ajay Devgn is someone who has a fair knowledge of the business and distribution. He has also been involved in the distribution business for some time now. And that’s the reason why he never believed in increasing his price. He would stick to Rs 6-8 crore for his films. But after Singham, his market value has now multiplied. And so, when he was offered Himmatwala by director Sajid Khan, he took it up at an increased fee.”
