Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sizzled on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2010. She wore three separate gowns, a sea blue tulle gown by Elie Saab on the first day, a stunning black sequined Armani Privé gown on the second day and on the third day a purple gown that was not exactly up to the mark. But Deepika Padukone sashayed the red carpet on Friday wearing a designer saree by Rohit Bal.
It is believed that Deepika Padukone did a smart thing by choosing the Indian national costume for her first major international appearance. The actress who is currently in French Riviera, as is Aishwarya stated, “When I started modelling, I promised myself that whenever I attend an international event, I’d wear a saree and not western clothes. I get enough opportunities at home to wear western clothes. When I’m seen at an international event I’d rather be fully Indian.”
When asked to comment on Aishwarya Rai’s appearance in the past few days, Deepika cleverly declined to comment but said, “I wouldn’t like to comment on others” Deepika added that she found the saree very sensuous and it felt good to be so Indian away from home.
According to sources, Deepika Padukone had discreetly made inquiries to find out what Ash would be wearing before going for her own look. In the end, it was the day for the media and the public because they got to see so much variety in terms of dressing in Indian female celebrities, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone and Mallika Sherawat who for once looked subdued and pretty.
